I recently downloaded the Space 1999 pack for KSP 1.0.5 but I am having difficulty controlling the craft. Any advice or list of controls so that I can take off or land vertically or at least control the vertical thrust?

Yes, the Eagle one, One of my Favorites, Ok, well unfortunaley the eagle has two sets (sometimes 3 Sets) of thrusts, It is best to ACTION GROUP them accordingly, i.e. Thrusters Main drives, then the bottom (VTOL) ones in another (With the pod thursters) Its not a very realistic ship, but it looks damn sweet! Mechjeb use to have a "Variable" engine feature back in 0.18, but they eliminated that for some silly reason.
as for flight controls, the WASD keys, are standard, and there are the IJKLN for RCS forward, left, right, back once in Orbit.
Hope this helps.

An ability to throttle the vertical thrust would be very useful indeed rather than the full on or off that can be achieved as far as I know with the VTOL engines which I did manage to action group together. Is there a mod somewhere to allow this if variable thrust lift cant be included by yourself? Are you saying that there is built in RCS for this craft? The IVA is rather basic as well and nothing like the inside of an Eagle cockpit.

Yeah no on the mod. This was one of my first models. Am now working on iva creation. Not too good with it. And as for rcs, add rcs thrustrs the linear ones work good for lateral movement.

I would have thought that creating throttle-able vertical engines would not have been too difficult. I am not a programmer so I could be thinking it is easier than it is to implement but I have seen that some items can have options which are usable as an action group. I did this to the vertical engines to switch them on or off so that I could thrust and control the Eagle properly once in space. The ability to throttle will allow for pin point landings rather than having to perform suicide burns!

Oh I agree. Also the Stock thrust is a bit too high, and the Mass a bit too low. (Actually I cheat) I use Hyperedit, find my sight, open the Landing option, select land and watch it float down. Cheating I know, but I really do like the Eagle look.

After testing the Eagle one, (Again) I have found the central issue. The Eagle One is a fine Sci-fi ship, but it basically lacks reverse thrust. The VTOL (Both Body and Pods) are toggled through the action Groups. (With this particular model, and employing the aerodynamics model in the game,) This ship can roughly work on almost any world. There are certain limitations however. One: Without reverse thrust, the vehicle has no real way to decelerate its forward momentum aside from doing a 180 and applying thrust. Now this wont chide with the TV Series, but then again the TV Series was by no means an accurate model. In the Show, they flew like an airplane in an atmosphere. this is simply not possible at all. Ok, a Users guide. When attempting to land on say the mun, Pick your target, and 180 to kill momentum. After momentum is around 0 m/s switch to VTOL, and begin controlled descent. keep in mind that the surface of the Mun is in motion, and the H/Speed will gradually rise. (I find it best to use mechjeb) and kill H speed/ Kill V Speed) in tandem. This vehicle is aesthetically pleasing to look at but in reality simply would not work as shown in the show. A Simple solution to landing the Eagle is this: Download and install Hyperedit, Pick your target and switch to internal guidance, (Vessel Lander) in Hyperedit. let the computer land it. (Autoland) as it were. That way you get to fly the eagle, look cool, and have the benefits of the TV show flight model. Hope this helps all you eagle drivers out there, and remember, your Not Alan.
